William Atkinson was born on 28th June 1909 in Brompton and joined the RAF on 10th October 1941. After initial 'square bashing' he trained to be an airframe fitter and was posted to No 103 Conversion Flight. In 1942 he contracted pulmonary tuberculosis and died in hospital on the 11th January 1943.

William Atkinson lies buried in Brompton Parish Cemetery, and is remembered in the Central Church of the Royal Air Force St Clement Danes London and on the Lych Gate Memorial at Brompton Parish Church.
