Robert Barker was born in 1925 and was the son of William and Muriel Barker of Romanby. Robert won a scholarship to the Northallerton Grammar School in 1938. He joined the Grammar School Scout Troop where he had the rare distinction of being commissioned to a King's Scout.He volunteered for the Royal Navy in 1943 and was posted to HMS Lanka. HMS Lanka was a shore base known as a concrete frigate.
Robert Barker is remembered on the Royal Naval Memorial Chatham in Kent on Panel 76 Column 2. He is also remembered on the Romanby War Memorial the All Saints Parish Church Memorial and on the Grammar School Memorial Plaque. Robert was aged 19 years.
