Very little is known about Anthony. He was born and was living in Brompton at the time he enlisted in his local Territorial Battalion at Northallerton.
He was killed aged 22, during the 4th Yorkshire's abortive attack at Wancourt during the Battle of Arras, when sevral other local men also lost their lives and one of their officers, Captain David Hirsch, won a posthumous Victoria Cross. Anthony like all the other local men who died in this attack and the gallant Captain Hirsch, was never found and is commemroated on the Memorial to The Missing at Arras.
