QMS H. Senior

FIRST NAMES: Harold

UNIT: 1/6th South Staffordshire Regiment

NUMBER: 260120

STATUS: Died of Wounds

DATE OF DEATH: 18th October 1918

CEMETERY OR MEMORIAL: Vadencourt British Cemetery, Maissemy, France

AGE: 32

Harold's parents were Thomas and Susanna Senior of 40 Fountain Street, Guisborough. He was married to Maud with whom he lived at Orchard House in Romanby.

He served with the Yorkshire Regiment (No. 726) before being posted to the South Staffordshires and so it seems likely that he had originally been a member of the 4th Yorkshires, the local territorial battalion which was based in Northallerton. The relatively low number suggests that he was a member of the Battalion before the outbreak of war.

After hearing of his death, his wife circulated a number of small cards thanking people for their expressions of sympathy, including one to the Romanby Cricket and Lawn Tennis Club, of which Harold had been a member. The card states that he died of gas poisoning in France It is believed he was gassed by mustard gas, and died from the effects of the gas shortly afterwards.
