Alfred was killed at the age of 37, just one week before the Armistice and the end of the War. His parents were called Joseph and Mary and they lived in Brompton. He was married to Clara, who lived at "Inglenook", The Green, Brompton.

His body could not be identified and he is commemorated on the Memorial to the Missing at Vis-En-Artois, between Arras and Cambrai.
