Albert Lee was born on the 14th of June 1902 at Minskip near Boroughbridge and went to school at Carlton Miniott Thirsk. In 1920 he joined the Royal Horse Artillery as a boy entrant and served six years. During his service he boxed for the army as a flyweight. On leaving the army he joined the TA and late in 1926 he married Elizabeth Harrison.They lived at 2 Railway Cottages, Brompton, where they had five children, George, Percy, Tom, Grace and Ella. Albert was employed by the NRCC first as a steam engine driver and then as the very first motor lorry driver, a position of which he was particularly proud.

In 1939 he was recalled to the army and joined the RASC and in 1940 was posted to Plymouth. During the Blitz of 1940 Albert sustained serious injuries by a bomb and was invalided out of the army. He went back to work for the North Riding and moved house to The Green Romanby. In 1945 he died from the injuries received in the air-raid of 1940.

Albert Lee lies buried in a Commonwealth war grave in Brompton Parish Cemetery and is remembered on the Lych Gate War Memorial Brompton.

Albert was aged 42 years.
