Gunner Sandall's mother was called Margaret. He lived at North End, Northallerton.

He was being treated for his wounds at the Military Hospital, Scotton, Catterick Camp, but tragically, he died of his wounds only a few weeks after the Armistice had been signed and the War had ended. He was buried in Northallerton Cemetery on 23rd December 1918, aged 21.
